Unser Übernachtungsplatz liegt am Rande eines Küstenabschnitts mit weissem Sand und einigen Dünen aus diesem - die **Sugar Dunes**. Weiterfahrt zu einem "Rock Garden" in Duqm, einer Stadt mit vielen strategischen Investitionen wie Hafen, Raffinerie und Industrie. Der Indische Ozean im Süden des Omas ist eher kühl - perfekt für Langusten. Nun geht es hoch in das **Dhofar-Gebirge**. Wir fahren hoch auf den **Jabal Samhan** zur Klippe auf 1'300 m über dem Meer und finden ein Platz zum Übernachten mit leider etwas dunstiger Weitsicht. Auf der Rückfahrt besichtigen wir das grosse **Taiq Sinkhole**. Es war wieder Zeit für etwas Abenteuer: 4x4 Tour von Salalah Richtung **Eftalquot Beach** zum Jahresauftakt. Steil und sehr felsig, aber Calle hat nicht gemurrt. Dieser Küstenabschnitt im Süden des Oman hat sehr gefallen. Abends zieht eine ganze Kamelherde vorbei. Nun verlassen wir die Küste und fahren zuerst in die Hochebene und halten noch im Wadi Ayun bevor wir erstmals an der Rub Al Chali, der grössten Sandwüste der Erde, vorbei Richtung Norden des Oman fahren. Off Road Track der "Pistenkuh" OM2: Sandpiste um und zwischen Felsen mitten in einer ansonsten flachen Landschaft. Eine weitere Langstrecke in der Wüste bis wir wieder auf Zivilisation stossen: **Manah**. Besichtigung der Old City - ein Quartier von verlassenen Lehmgebäuden im Wiederaufbau als Freilichtmuseum. Der eigentliche Eingang war geschlossen. Und noch ein Museum, ebenfalls in Manah. Weiter nach Nizwa, einer sehenswerten grösseren Oasenstadt am Rande des Hadschar-Gebirges. Wir übernachten mitten in der Stadt am Rande des grossen Park- und Marktplatzes. Fahrt in die Berge. Wanderung durch das Bergdorf **Al Ayn** auf rund 1'800 müM mit vielen Falaj (Wasserkanälen) mit denen die Terassen im Berghang bewässert werden. Wir übernachten auf einem Parkplatz und stellen beim Eindunkeln fest, dass viele Omanis im Hain spazieren gehen.
